Tea in the G’s

Yesterday was the start of the new topic ‘Oh Crumbs!’. Mrs Pallot, Miss Nash, Mrs Harvey and Mrs Lee set up the dinner hall as a tea room. It was really good because we got to try lots of different types of biscuitsb, and evaluate them for the beginning of our new topic! Yum Yum!!

Our Islamic 3D tiles

After lots of researching and finding out we finally worked out that the artefacts in the box were from the Islam religion.  We found lots of interesting facts and information during in our topic time.

We looked at Islamic art work and discovered that Islamic people use particular designs in the art work. These being geometric, calligraphic, medallion and organic/ figural.

We had a go at designing our own geometric designs which we then used to make our own clay tile.

As you can see from the photographs none of our designs are the same either.

The Mysterious Box!

Today Mr Morris delivered a chest to us that said ‘For G3 please look inside’. So we all got into a circle and Miss Nash opened the box. Inside there was a letter from Mrs Halstead and lots of different artefacts and photographs.  Mrs Halstead’s letter asked to make some 3D artwork for an exhibition at school that was about a religion we didn’t know much about.

Some of the things in the we had seen from literacy earlier in the day and other we hadn’t seen before.  We put on our thinking cap and thought about what questions we could ask to find out more.

Miss Nash has said that in Topic time we are going to find out more and try to work out what we need to do.

Royal Wedding Celebrations

To celebrate the Royal Wedding the PTA arranged for us to have a picnic out on the field. We got lots of lovely things to eat, as well an ice-cold ice cream to enjoy in the sunshine. We also got to wear our own red, white or blue clothes to celebrate the British Royal Wedding!

As you can see from the photo’s it was lots of fun!

Wartcombe School of Magical Science Graduation Day

Today was our graduation day- we had a jam-packed day of science activties.  All of the class came dressed up and it was really funny to see what people had worn too.   Miss Nash and Mrs Harvey organised some special food for us to eat too- but we had to answer some questions about it before we got to have it.  Then at the end of the day Professor Dumbledore made a special appearance to award us with our ‘newt’ assessment certificates. It was really exciting and lots of parents came to see the graduation too.

Here are some photo’s of the day :

Shadow Puppet Workshop

Last Monday we had a really exciting day because a special visitor came in to show how us how to make shadow puppets. He was very talented and showed us some many different puppet that he had made himself.

We started the day by watching a few different shadow puppet shows by Don- our special visitor. He was great at putting on different voices for the characters in the stories.

Then Don showed us how to make some different shadow puppets. There were ones with moving arms, legs and even mouths. He also showed us how to put colour on to them too.

After this we were able to make our own puppets. We had great fun experimenting and making lots of different kind of ones.  Macauly was very clever and made some shadow puppets to retell the story of James and the Giant Peach.  Josh made a tiger and cage and even put some colour on his tiger.

At the end of the day we got to show the rest of the school what we had made. It was really great as we could hide behind the puppet and nobody could see us.

We had a great day!

Foxy’s Transport

Recently we took part in a design and technology day with G2.

We recieved a letter from Fantastic Mr. Fox. He wrote to us to ask for our help in designing something to help him to transport food back to his burrow.

To be successful the product had to…

  • be easy enough even for the smallest rabbit to use
  • hold a bottle of apple juice, a packet of goose liver doughnuts, a lettuce, 6 carrots and a jar of marmalade
  • fit down the tunnel to the burrow

We looked at lots of different products that hold things and move. We asked lots of questions about the products such as, how the product was made? Who it was used for? and What it was used for?

In teams with children in G2 we then spent the rest of the day desiging and making our products. At the end of the day we tested and evaluated our products (we had to use a play tunnel borrowed from Key Stage 1 as we didn’t have a burrow to hand!)

Miss Nash and Mrs Pallot chose 2 winners and Mr Bates chose an over all winner. We had a great day!

Here are some photo’s from the day.

Wartcombe Magical Science Experiments!

Over the last couple of weeks we have been doing lots of differenet magical science experiments.  From sorting materials, to changing materials.

We looked at various ways that we could change materials. From freezing to heating, and even mixing.

When sorting materials we had to think carefully about how we would does this too, as all materials were different.

Here are a few photo’s to show you what we have been doing.
